After 2 cancellations in 3 weeks due to poor weather, U11 Vikings were keen to get playing again and hosted Horsmonden U11. The away fixture had led to a win for Vikings by 23 runs although Extras conceded helped the Vikings cause. The home match was very different. Vikings won the toss and elected to field. A change in opening bowlers worked with James Kershaw's accuracy (0 -5) and Freddie Dunn's left arm spin restricting Horsmonden to just 11 off 4 overs. Seb Leuty, on debut for Vikings, and Saharsh Abhinay took 2 wickets each in their spells with Saharsh only conceding 2 runs. 23 runs in the last 4 overs kept Horsmonden in the game, getting bonus points for reaching 50 despite Pranev's wicket and 5 wickets in total. Pleasingly, Vikings bowlers recorded their lowest Extras count of 18. Oscar Langridge and Jack Hobbs started the run chase confidently, before Jack retired hurt briefly; Jonah Wilson took up the mantle top-scoring with 27 runs and the target was reached on 8 overs. Partnerships of 26 from Seb and Saharsh and 20 from James and Pranev saw Vikings through to their highest score of the season, 124 for 2. Well done, boys - a terrific effort from all and great support from the boundary. Many thanks to Murphy Patrick for his time, dedication and accuracy as our U15 scorer this season.
